Come aboard and experience a night in the life of a sailor on a WWII aircraft carrier! You and your scout will learn about and walk in the footsteps of astronauts and heroes aboard the ship that proudly recovered the first men to walk on the Moon, the Apollo 11 and 12 lunar mission astronauts.
Sleep in restored sleeping compartments where the real USS Hornet crew lived (see picture here)
Eat Dinner and Breakfast in the Crew’s Mess
Learn about this famous aircraft carrier’s daring exploits
Tour key areas in the ship and the historical naval aircraft on board
Ride the Flight Simulator (included in price)
Earn a special crew member Patch & Certificate
Pre-order customized dog tags for your scout and pick them up on the ship (orders must be placed by January 2nd for pick up that night)
Eligibility Requirements
PLEASE READ and agree to abide by all requirements. Full details found in this General Information Packet.
Every child 9 years old and younger must have their own chaperone. Scouts 10 years old or older can attend with a 1:6 ratio of chaperone to scout. Adults cannot attend unless there is a child in their party. Similarly, no unaccompanied children may participate.
By registering you are agreeing to the following media release: "By participating in programming aboard the USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum, I hereby grant permission to the rights of my group’s image, likeness and sound of our voices as recorded on audio or video tape without payment or any other consideration. I understand that our images may be edited, copied, exhibited, published or distributed and waive the right to inspect or approve the finished product wherein our likeness appears. Additionally, I waive any right to royalties or other compensation arising or related to the use of our image or recording. I also understand that this material may be used in diverse education settings, marketing/advertising materials, and the Museum’s website within an unrestricted geographic area. By accepting these terms, I understand this permission signifies that photographic or video recordings of me and my group may be electronically displayed via the Internet or in the public educational setting. I hereby release any and all claims against any person or organization utilizing this material for educational purposes."
Logistics
Admission to the Sleepover begins at 4:30pm and ends after breakfast the next morning around 9am. You can store your overnight gear in your car that morning and return to the ship to explore with your free admission. Your free admission can be used at another time as well.
Female scouts and chaperones may request to sleep in separate quarters if necessary or desired. Please email Brooke Lopez if this applies to you.
Dinner and breakfast are included and vegetarian meals can be requested via the registration however, allergies can not be accommodated safely by the ship crew therefore the ship asks that anyone with food allergies prepare and pack their own dinner and breakfast.
