Committee Leadership
Leadership Roles and Responsibilities
Committee Chair - Coordinate and run regular leadership meetings. Be the main liaison between the pack and the Scouts BSA district office. Time commitment: ~4 hours/month, but front-loaded with more time required at the beginning of the year.
Cubmaster - Plan, coordinate, and run monthly pack meetings. Attend leadership meetings. Be the adult face of the pack. Time commitment: ~5 hours/month
Assistant Cubmaster - Provide support for Cubmaster as needed. Attend leadership meetings. Time commitment: ~2 hours/month
Membership chair - Keep track of scout registrations and make sure all adult leaders have completed their assigned training. Attend leadership meetings. Authorized signer for our bank account. Time commitment: ~4 hours/month in the fall, very little after that
Treasurer - Organize pack finances. Keep track of the payment of dues. Handle reimbursements. Attend leadership meetings. Authorized signer for our bank account, and empowered to open new accounts/make changes to existing accounts. Time commitment: ~1 hour/month
Webmaster - Maintain pack website and manage mailing lists and pack domain accounts. Time commitment: ~1 hour/month
Advancement chair - Gather lists of completed adventures from den leaders, file those completions on the scouting website, and coordinate the purchase of badges and belt loops for the scouts. Time commitment: ~2 hour/month
Den leader - Coordinate and run monthly den meetings based on adventure curriculum provided by Scouts BSA. Time commitment: ~4 hours/month and potentially less if you enlist/delegate parents in your den to prepare and run curriculum
Hiking chair - Plan and coordinate pack hikes, choosing the hike, setting the date and time, communicating details to the pack, making sure all participants have signed waivers, and tracking miles hiked per scout. Time commitment: ~1.5h/mo of planning, and participation in a typically 3h weekend-day hike about once a month. Note that this role could be easily split between multiple volunteers.
Camping chair - Plan and coordinate annual scout camping trip. Time commitment: ~20 hours leading up to trip, potentially less if you enlist/delegate parents to help with specific tasks
Overnight chair - Plan and coordinate annual scout overnight (previous locations have included Chabot Space Museum, Monterey Aquarium, and USS Hornet). Time commitment: ~5 hours leading up to trip
Pinewood Derby chair - Plan and coordinate annual Pinewood Derby including ordering materials, scheduling car-building sessions, and organizing volunteers to help with car building, set-up, derby running, and cleanup. Time commitment: ~15 hours leading up to event
Scouting For Food chair - Plan and coordinate annual Scouting for Food event, in which Scouts distribute door flyers soliciting donations for local food pantry and return the following week to pick up donations. Time commitment: ~5 hours leading up to event
